Edgar Colón

Edgar Colón has his own legal practice in Houston, where his emphasis is in all forms of commercial transactions, corporations, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, redistricting and public finance.  In the area of public finance, Mr. Colón is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

In addition to his law practice, since 2008, he is a Full Time Lecturer in Political Science, Department of Social Sciences, at the University of Houston-Downtown, where he teaches Federal Government, Texas Government, Hispanic Politics, American Legal System, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and Introduction to American Constitutional Law.

With respect to community activities, in 2008, Mr. Colón was appointed as Chairman of the Board, Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, by the unanimous vote of the Harris County Commissioners Court.  The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation operates and develops various public facilities at Reliant Park, including the Astrodome and Reliant Stadium. The corporation is a public, not-for-profit corporation overseen by a five-member board of directors appointed by the Harris County (Texas) Commissioners Court.  In addition, Mr. Colón has served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce since 1993 and served as Chairman of the Board for two years (2006-2008).  At the Hispanic Chamber, he was a co-founder and chaired the Chamber’s political action committee.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Bar Association and served in other capacities such as Vice President (1992), President-Elect (1993), President (1994) and Immediate Past President (1995).  He also serves Vice-Chair of the Board of the Varnett Public School.

Mr. Colón graduated from the University of Houston with a B.B.A. in Economics (cum laude) in 1980, received his M.B.A. in Finance from University of Houston in 1984 and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 1984.  Mr. Colón then obtained a LL.M. in Banking Law in 1986 from Boston University School of Law.  In 2000, he received a Masters Degree and in 2003 a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Houston, where his research interest is the judicial systems of Latin American countries.  He is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.  Mr. Colón is fluent in Spanish.
